A Love of Vengeance Wanted Men Book 1 edition by Nancy Haviland Romance eBooks
Too many characters and not enough plot too drawn out. This supposed thriller, suspense, mafia themed love story fell flat. I spent the read craving the ending. The story was interrupted with the introduction of too many characters. There are unreadable text messages throughout the story because of the font chosen. This is an unforgivable editing flaw. It just adds to the disjointed feel of this tale that is plagued with mafia / gangster caricatures and cliches. The worse offense is being 20% to 30% in the story and knowing (not guessing) the whose responsible for all the catalyst if moves and uncover loyalties of the characters ("the double agents"). I knew Vasily's intent behind his request. I knew Vincent's true role. I knew Alesio's true role. I knew Furio's intent, roles and acts. I knew Lucian's motive. As a result, this read like a turtle race as I waited and waited and waited for the author to reveal what was already know.
Based on the aforementioned, I would describe Nancy Haviland as an author rather than a storyteller. I certainly will not recommend this book except for those who intend to be invested in the Wanted Men series.

A Love of Vengeance Wanted Men Book 1 edition by Nancy Haviland Romance eBooks Reviews
Brandi’s 5+ Star review!
This little gem surpassed all my expectations with a truly brilliant story. I was shocked to find out that Haviland is a new author since her writing is perfected like someone who would have a ton of books under their belt. With the perfect blend of suspense, romance and mystery this book deserves to be on every best-sellers list. There are many Mafia related books that I simply love but this one now reigns as my favorite. I found myself trying to prolong reading this story just because I did not want it to end…that’s how much A Love of Vengeance ROCKS!
Two things that make this story a keeper are the array of favorable character’s and a plot that is very original. So, let’s start with the crew,(Gabriel,Alek,Vincente,Vasily,Caleb,Jak,Lucien,Quan and Maskim) they are like a band of brothers (think Black Dagger Brotherhood or The Rock Chicks) where their loyal and you connect to each and everyone of them. Of course, their all Alpha males but each one brings something different to the story. As for the plot, this isn’t your typical- boy meets girl, they fall in love, they can’t be together…no, (shaking my index finger) this story is so much more. It has so many obstacles and sub-plots that with every chapter you sink farther and farther into this world and never want to leave.
As for the romance, what’s not to love when you watch an Alpha soften for the innocent girl?! There is major chemistry between Gabriel and Eva that will make your toes curl however, this book is not 50% of our couple doing the non-stop-shag-fest. Oh, it’s in there but not overly done, thank God!
I can’t wait to jump into the next installment, The Salvation of Vengeance, which will be Reaper (Vincente) and Nika’s story. Since we got a taste in A Love of Vengeance, I know this one will be epic and I get to revisit with my boys! Ms. Haviland, I hope we get a book on each of these mafia bad-asses!!!
## I really liked the premise of this book. The romance portion of the story was fabulous. Eva and Gabe had tremendous chemistry. What didn't work for me was the introduction of too many characters. I get that this is a first in a series so SOME characters needed to be intertwined. There were just too many. The first half of the book had my head spinning from all the information regarding the many Russians and the Moretti crime family. The second half of the book was so much better. I adored Eva. She was a tough cookie. Did she forgive Gabe too quickly for all his deceptions? Oh hell to the yes. But I loved her nonetheless. Thank you to the author for letting this heroine be smart AND beautiful. I really hate when authors write heroines plump, plain, or "curvy" to make it more realistic. Pffft. If I wanted realistic, I wouldn't be reading fiction. With less characters and 50 fewer pages, this would've been a 5 star read.
I have no idea what good fortune led me to download A LOVE OF VENGEANCE. Having reread many of my old favorites in an effort to avoid disappointment from the usual disappointing fare (corny plots, cringe-worthy dialogue, or terrible editing) that are too often part of the romance genre, it was a great treat to discover Nancy Haviland.
Haviland has created a delicious alpha male (think Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley or Midnight Man by Lisa Marie Rice) who is sexy, bad, wildly attractive and totally knocked sideways by story's leading lady. Gabriel has grown up in the mob, and although his business is "mostly" legit, he is very much used to be obeyed when he speaks. There is something amusing about his frustration in dealing with Eva, who not only has her own opinions, she interrupts him frequently while he is in mid-command.
Gabriel has a hard time dealing with the fact that Eva doesn't see him the way he sees himself. "Caleb knows people who would have helped me if that guy had come back... Envy sheared through muscle and bone. I KNOW PEOPLE! he wanted to roar. I AM THOSE PEOPLE!"
"Don't touch his face again. There's no good reason for it, and I'm pretty sure I felt an artery rupture from having to watch that."
I enjoyed the plot. There was enough tension and steam to make me not want to book the book down. Even if you guess what is going on, it is still interesting to see the story play out. There is an intriguing cast of secondary characters. My only quibble would be that the author introduces so many of them in the first novel, it is a bit overwhelming. Having four interesting hottie helpers would have been plenty. It is clear that there are enough of these guys to create many future books, we just didn't need to meet them all in this one.
The proof that I really enjoyed this book, was that I checked to see if Ms. Haviland had written anything else, and dowloaded Book 2 of this series before finishing this one.
